Yesterday, eight individual Willow Tits were trapped at a feeding station at Newball Wood. One was unringed, six ringed as first year birds in 2010 and one originally ringed in 2006! I understand they were all in good condition and at the expected weight. This is obviously another good area for the species. Certainly good news that they have survived so far and a good example of the importance of feeding stations at woodland sites.

Good news but what happened to the voluntary ban on ringing?

Quote:
In view of the continued very low temperatures, the Mid-Lincs RG has imposed a voluntary ban on all its' members ringing activities until the temperature is consistently above freezing.

Sorry, Russell and Dean, I should have made it clearer. This has been the only ringing done by any members of the MLRG and lasted 1 hour at a feeding station at Saturday lunchtime enabling birds ample time to feed before and after. It was to specifically assess the condition of the birds caught as regards to expected weight etc. This is a necessary process in determining facts that casual observation cannot during continiuing cold weather. Hope that helps.
