For those that usually buy my DVD's from the Far Ings reserve at Barton,
just to confirm that the 2010 edition of Rare and Scarce Birds is now on
sale at the shop in the new visitor centre.

This is an extremely watchable and entertaining compilation of the rare and scarce birds seen in Lincolnshire in 2010 plus neighbouring counties and, for specific megas, as far afield as Norfolk, Cornwall and the Scilly Isles. The accompanying narration provides comment and factual information for each sighting.

Roy (and Linda) must have travelled thousands of miles and spent hundreds of hours throughout 2010 in amassing (and editing) these recordings and for a relatively modest price we can enjoy at our armchair leisure the fruits of the labours involved. I especially enjoyed watching again the birds I had myself seen throughout the year, particularly the real specials (for me) such as the Welbourn Great Grey Shrike (March), the Whisby Nightingales (April), the unforgettable Frampton Oriental Pratincole (May), the Gib Point Spoonbills (June)........one could go on and on as over 80 sightings are included. One great bonus is the aid to ID of unusual species that the recordings provide. One special feature that Roy incorporates with the bird sightings is the lingering shot of the actual location and occasionally of the group of birders present .....it really brings back one's memory of a specific visit quite vividly, and overall it provides a general and yet definite birding atmosphere for the sighting.

We are very fortunate in Lincolnshire in having a number of skilled bird photographers who produce brilliant shots of birds throughout the year and Roy's 2010 video recordings with the accompanying commentary complement their efforts superbly.

Regards,

Freddy
