Yesterday morning at the West side of Louth I watched a Grey heron in flight for a few minutes. The entire time it was in view it flew with its neck extended. I have seen herons extend their necks briefly when being mobbed or for a short while after take off but never for this long. Has anyone else witnessed such behaviour? At considerable distance, I thought, it could possibly be mistaken for a Crane! John |

One day last year I was on the tip at Swanpool when a Grey Heron flew over with it's neck extended, at first glance, with the naked eye I immediately thought crane. It flew like this for a considerable distance. |
