Mid Lincs RG visited the Heronry at Kingerby yesterday. In 2009 there were 20 occupied nests but only 13 this year - probably a result of the harsh winter. As always with Herons, the nests were at various stages and most contained 3 or 4 young/eggs. 15 were ringed and another visit will be made in a couple of weeks to ring the remainder. In previous years we ring up to 30 nestlings at the site and it is anticipated we will do about the same this year. Although the number of nests is well down, it is good that the productivity is fairly constant.
