Post subject:  colour ringed Black-tailed Godwits

anyone watching Black-tails will be sure to come across some colour ringed birds this autumn so worth reiterating that for a full recovery you need to see both legs and get the full combination if possible but the tibia rings are generally more important than the tarsal ones; amazingly this morning I came across my first Icelandic Black-tail of the autumn on the deck at Barton and it was colour ringed but with an odd combination that had me wondering if my scope needed a new eyepiece; left tibia was obviously Lime over Green but the right appeared to be a long bluish - lime coloured ring with two horizontal black bands across it -- through the wonders of tnet I had had a quick reply from Pete Potts and can now add this new type of ring to look out for -- no photos but may try it again later tonight when the heat haze drops - reply from Pete below

Many thanks for sighting of the godwit trust all's well.

LG B= was ringed at Mahee Island, Strangford Lough, Co. Down, N Ireland by Kerry Mackie as a juv on 13/12/09 this is the first sighting since ringing.

The ring on right is a strange lime/blue/turquoise colour with two black engraved bands on it.
