Posted for Chris Gunn. Looking for Something to do Now The Atlas Has Finished? I have just taken on the role of Local Organiser for The Wetland Bird Survey in North Lincolnshire Inland and I am looking for volunteers to help with monitoring the sites listed at the end of this email. If you take on a site you will be sent a list of dates and are asked to visit the site once a month around the third Sunday in the month and record the total number of waterbirds present and enter the results on line. If the site you are interested in is not on the list it may be currently being covered and the recorder may need help e.g. to cover whilst they are on holiday. Or it is a new site, in which case I can add it to the list. If you are interested please contact me – donandchris@hotmail.co.uk. For further information visit http://www.bto.org/webs I look forward to hearing from you Chris Chris Gunn LO WeBS North Lincolnshire Inland Major WeBS sites Hagnaby Lock Fen (35073) TF340597 Bain Aggregates (Kirkby) (Kirkby-on-Bain Gravel Pits) (35263) TF232603 Kirkby Pits (Private) (Kirkby-on-Bain Gravel Pits) (35265) TF238611 Kirkby Pits (Reserve) (Kirkby-on-Bain Gravel Pits) (35264) TF238611 Other WeBS sites Anderby (35S01) TF537767 Ashbyville Lake Scunthorpe (38251) SE922082 Bagmoor Mines (38262) SE905165 Barton Gravel Pits (38221) TA055234 (incorporated in inner humber F1 and F2 core count sectors and are already covered) Billinghay Skirth (35357) TF175555 Branston Fen (35351) TF085695 Burton Brick Pit Scunthorpe (38263) SE865175 Cadney Reservoir (38131) TA013046 Carlton and Manby Washlands (35362) TF408863 Corringham Scroggs (35361) SK885925 Covenham Reservoir (35171) TF346960 Ealand Lake (38260) SE777115 Fison`s Lagoon Immingham (38046) TA205145 Fulstow Fish Pit (35211) TF334977 Hackthorn Hall Lake (35056) SK990822 Hagnaby Fen Restoration (35072) TF343595 Holme Plantation Pool (38005) SE910049 Indies Farm Gravel Pits (35272) SK847686 Innes Pit Lincoln (exact location not certain) (35293) SK945685 Island Carr Lakes (38252) SE999064 Kirkby Moor Reservoir (35123) TF224618 Kirton Lindsey Quarry (38243) SE943020 Lakeside, North Somercotes (35203) TF431959 Taken 16/10/2011 Langworth Area Lakes (including Sudbrooke Park) (35571) TF045765 Laughton (35061) SK845995 Lindholme Lake Sandtoft (38001) SE732064 Taken 16/10/2011 Nocton Wood Clay Pit (35262) TF087639 North Somercotes Gravel Pits (35214) TF425965 Revesby Reservoir (35121) TF307633 River Witham and South Delph: Five Mile House to Short Ferry (35373) TF085714 Sandhowes Farm Sand Quarries (38242) SE875035 Saxilby GP (35281) SK895745 Scawby Park Lakes (38007) SE971062 South Ferriby Pits (38222) SE969207 Sudbrooke Park Lake (35071) TF047760 Sutton Ings Brick Pit (35202) TF503807 Twigmore Gull Ponds (38006) SE934056 Taken 16/10/2011 West Ashby Gravel Pits (35296) TF251722 Winterton Road and Crosby Warren Gravel Pits (38261) SE907129 Withern Washland (35360) TF430829 Woodlands Pits Market Rasen (35290) TF120889 Taken 16/10/2011 |

I WeBS count Marston STW - I have to visit the site once a month, I have an offical date but often undertake the count a few days before or just afterwards. I record all the waders and waterbirds, and upload it all to the BTO website. The upload is very easy, it remembers the species you saw there last month, so you don't have to take ages looking them up.... I can recommend taking part, AND you get the excellent annual report for FREE - worth it alone! The 2009/10 report arrived about a month ago, 190 pages pack with data and information. If your local wetland site isn't on the list, I suggest you contact Chris, who will be able to tell you why, it may not be registered??? Andrew PS It also has the best logo of any bird survey! |

Hi Max, I'm sure you're right. However, the blurb you got from the BTO when you started WeBS stated that you must get permission from the landowner to visit the sites. From my experience, armed with the the WeBS Survey booklet/BTO Annual Ringing Report etc. etc., all the landowners I have had dealings with over the last 30+ years have been most co-operative. It's amazing what help you can get from landowners provide you start the right way. Regards, Stuart |
