Looking for Something to do Now The Atlas Has Finished?

I have just taken on the role of Local Organiser for The Wetland Bird Survey in North Lincolnshire Inland and I am looking for volunteers to help with monitoring the sites listed at the end of this email. If you take on a site you will be sent a list of dates and are asked to visit the site once a month around the third Sunday in the month and record the total number of waterbirds present and enter the results on line. If the site you are interested in is not on the list it may be currently being covered and the recorder may need help e.g. to cover whilst they are on holiday. Or it is a new site, in which case I can add it to the list.

If you are interested please contact me – donandchris@hotmail.co.uk.

For further information visit http://www.bto.org/webs

I look forward to hearing from you

Chris

I WeBS count Marston STW - I have to visit the site once a month, I have an offical date but often undertake the count a few days before or just afterwards. I record all the waders and waterbirds, and upload it all to the BTO website.

The upload is very easy, it remembers the species you saw there last month, so you don't have to take ages looking them up....

I can recommend taking part, AND you get the excellent annual report for FREE - worth it alone! The 2009/10 report arrived about a month ago, 190 pages pack with data and information.

If your local wetland site isn't on the list, I suggest you contact Chris, who will be able to tell you why, it may not be registered???

Andrew

PS It also has the best logo of any bird survey!

Hi Max,
I'm sure you're right. However, the blurb you got from the BTO when you started WeBS stated that you must get permission from the landowner to visit the sites. From my experience, armed with the the WeBS Survey booklet/BTO Annual Ringing Report etc. etc., all the landowners I have had dealings with over the last 30+ years have been most co-operative. It's amazing what help you can get from landowners provide you start the right way.
Regards,
Stuart
