It would be helpful for Colin and Sheila (who extract the records for the County Bird Report) to know who "these other people/places" are to verify the authenticy of such records. |

Is it the only place in the country where you can see a Short eared Owl? |

Graham Catley wrote: Is it the only place in the country where you can see a Short eared Owl? Obviously not Graham, but people are presumably not aware of such obliging birds on their own local patches and are willing to travel to get crippling shots of this species, no law against that. I’m sure you can remember a few years ago there was an obliging SEO in Yorkshire which had people leaving their local patches to get nice close images. |

I don't mind the fact that people are travelling to see the Owls etc.,but as y.day was the first real day for people to arrive in numbers to photograph the owls,i noticed at least 3 morons already stood in the pasture field trying to get closer!,there has also been people standing in amongst the small conifer plantation down from the car park which is used by the S.e.O's and Barn Owls to roost.A little bit of common sense wouldn't go a miss with certain visitors, the last thing i want is more friction with the land owners. Absolutely agree with this comment. Perhaps we should photograph THEM and post their crass behaviour on this web site! |

Interestingly no photos on this photo album yet of the short eared owls? Is this becuase they aren't performing aswell? Are the birds distant unlike that one special bird we had last year that would just sit there for you! |

Anthony, the reason why no decent pictures have surfaced yet is the birds are not coming out to play until nearly dark, which is no good for photography. I suspect when the days get shorter and we have had a few frosts the birds will be more active in the daytime and good pictures will appear. Russell P.S. I have put a poor image taken at dusk of one SEO on my blog. http://birdmanbirds.blogspot.com/2011/10/short-eared-owl-worlaby-carrs-october.html |
