Yesterday we received a finding report of one of the St Wulfram's Peregrines - ringed as a chick at the church in 2009. It would appear that this young male Peregrine was shot near Horncastle in May 2011. Lincolnshire seems to be getting a bad reputation for rare birds of prey being shot - such as the other Peregrine found in the Brayford Pool and Norwegian-ringed Osprey in the last year or so. Whilst Lincolnshire landowners are generally very positive with their approach to birds of prey, it takes just a few disgraceful instances like this to tarnish that reputation. Alan |

You could also have added that the White tailed Eagle disappeared in mysterious circumstances but there was no corpse, unlike this Peregrine. I know it is now 9 months after the event, but is there any possibility of obtaining a more accurate location, date and finder , to either the police or local birders so enquiries can be made to try and find out more about this killing to see what can be done about preventing a recurrence. If this has already been done it would be good to know what the result was. |

Phil, I'm trying to find out more info. All I know at the moment is that the bird was injured had to be destroyed and was reported to the BTO by the RSPCA. I don't know the reason for the delay in reporting it. I'll update if/when I find out any more. Alan |
