BTO Thrush Survey.

I can fully recommended taking part in this BTO survey. Having just completed my first survey, I can confirm it’s easy to set up, easy to undertake and fairly easy to submit online.

Anyone interested needs to register on the BTO website.

First go to the survey page: http://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/winter-thrushes

Sign in or register. Anyone who has already undertaken ANY BTO survey can use their original username and password.

Then you can need to select a location. I went for the local walk which I do once or twice a week. Suggest you stick to somewhere local and that way you can easily complete the required visits. Follow the online instruction to setup the survey.

There are core square which need survey volunteer. In the southwest they are:

TF0483 Snarford
TF0389 West Rasen
TF0479 Dunholme
TF1475 Langton
TF1170 Bardney

Just to clarify this a little more, the survey is based on 1 km squares and there are two types.

Squares that at personally selected by you and can be covered as frequently as you wish between now and March, though monthly is recommended.

Core squares which are randomly selected by BTO HQ to provide a snapshot of thrush distribution and feeding activity across the country. The only stipulation for these squares is that they MUST be covered between 27 December 2012 and 10 January 2013.

Each BTO region has a list of core squares to be covered. In East Lincs the core square list is given below. If you'd like to cover one of these squares please contact me on pmjespin@gmail.com.
