Post subject:  Alex Parker taken ill in Brazil

Last weekend we received some distressing news, stating that Alex Parker had been taken seriously ill whilst on a birding trip to Brazil. He was admitted to hospital and has undergone surgery for a brain tumour. We understand that the operation went well. He is still being sedated and will remain in Brazil until he is well enough to travel home. We have received many enquiries regarding Alex's progress, and thought this was perhaps the best way to notify all of his many birding friends in Lincs and beyond. We are sure that you will join us in wishing Alex well, and a speedy recovery.

Very sorry to hear about Alex and I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
I have known Alex for about 40 years and have enjoyed several good birds with him, Great Bustard and Belted Kingfisher to mention just two.
Hope to see him out in the field again in the not too distant future.
Thinking of you Alex.

Wishing Alex a speedy recovery. I saw him a few weeks ago at Gibraltar Point, he had a headache that day.

Can I echo my best wishes to Alex for a speedy recovery, as someone new to birding I had met Alex at Frampton a few times and he was always so patient helping a novice find whatever was being looked for. Get well soon. Andrew

Hi

I too would like to wish Alex well. I first met Alex at Frampton too. At that time I did not know who he was but I found him so helpful, letting me look through his scope and teaching me lots about what to look for etc., Get well soon Alex we miss you

Malcolm.

What sad news this is - I have only just returned from a birding trip myself when Derek Pell rang me this aftenoon with the news.
We are both sorry to learn of Alex's troubles and both wish him well and a speedy recovery.

I gather that Alex is now back in the UK and is being looked after at Boston Pilgrim Hospital.
John Scarbro', his birding pal, has been to visit but Alex and commented as follows -

'He is still on the ventilator but they have stopped his sedation.
He is not conscious yet but was starting to come round in the hour I was there'.

Apparently Alex has also contracted pneumonia whilst in hospital in Brazil.
