Post subject:  Lincs Belt Marine Conservation Zone is not being designated

I was disappointed to read on Mark Avery's blog that very few MCZs (marine conservation zones) including the Lincs Belt an area of Lincs coastal waters north from Mablethorpe is not to be designated and given protection as a marine nature reserve; despite all the hard work of LWT in promoting it as such. You can read what DEFRA have to say and view all the documents from this link.

Its my suspicion this could have something to do with the same area appearing on a map earlier this week as having potential for gas fracking. My personal view is that gas fracking is an abomination with the capacity to permanently damage the english environment through chemical contamination. It also contributes to global warming and diverts resources away from what we should really be focusing on: renewable energy. We need to be vigilant about this or our coast could be wrecked. Designating it as a nature reserve now should be some protection and I will be responding to the consultation mentioned in the link above and I urge other to do so too.
