Hi John, On a couple of occasions I have seen a Kestrel going for a Barn Owl which was carrying a prey item but I have never seen a Sparrowhawk do it. I would suggest it was after the prey rather than the Barn Owl. |

Talking about sprawks..in the last few weeks a few people have told me they've had a sparrow hawk in there garden & not noticed one before..every time I replied - I've never "noticed" one in mine...until today when one was sat on the garage (where the sparrow's roost in the ivy) are these sighting's purely coincidental or are they on the uprise or venturing further afield for prey ? Season's greeting's to one & all. |

As previously recorded on this forum, I have twice seen kestrel rob barn owl of prey in flight. I have also seen female kestrel drive female sparrowhawk off prey on the ground. I think your robber probably was a kestrel. Hope this is of interest. John |
