during 5 hours of gull watching this afternoon I found 4 Lesser Black back sand 2 Herring Gulls with readable rings -- I sent them all off to what I could gather to be the correct people -- one Lesser Black back with an orange ring on the right tibia I sent to rjbuijs@hetnet.nl <rjbuijs@hetnet.nl>; at 21:08 -- at 22:02 I received the following Ringed 24 June 2011 at Moerdijk (Shell Chemie-Oost), Noord Brabany, NL seen 29.9.11 Gaurain-Ramecroix (PLas) Hainaut, Belgium 20.07.13 Bonby Lincs |

One of the problems with the "power of the net" is that people are now able to get the details of particularly colour ringed birds direct from the ringer/scheme co-ordinator. That's fine as long as the BTO or the relevant foreign ringing scheme are informed as well as they are the bodies that collate and reports on all ringing controls, recoveries, colour ring sightings etc. etc. By all means use the short cuts but don't forget to inform the BTO as well - the response will almost certainly be slower but the details will be included in the BTO Annual Ringing Report in Ringing and Migration. |
