Level crossing at Whisby Nature Reserve

As part of a national programme of level crossing improvements would potential visitors please note that the railway crossing at Whisby Nature Reserve will be closed by Network Railway this coming Monday 17th February. This crossing has been rated as high risk and Network Rail are mandated to close or improve these crossings, and once closed Network Rail have advised that the Whisby crossing will not re-open. As the current footbridge has been declared unsafe and beyond economic repair by Lincolnshire County Council, work will then start on a replacement bridge for pedestrians and Nature Reserve vehicles. This means that there will be no access to the northern half of Whisby (Magpie and Willow Walks) whilst this work takes place and in addition visitor access may be severely reduced at times around the north west corner of Grebe Lake.

A working timetable is as follows

February – March: Level crossing closed and initial groundworks to be carried out.

April – August: Work will stop during the bird breeding season.

September – November: The construction of the new footbridge will be carried out.

We ask for everyone's understanding whilst this major engineering project takes place, and apologise for the disruption that this will cause.
