Birding around Saltfleet and Rimac yesterday via Sea View Farm, I was told in no uncertain terms that the public footpath, running SE from the lane, past the front of the old Sea View farmhouse, over the stile, across the centre of the field and over a further stile was now closed as the farmer was "letting out his bulls". The guardian of the field, resplendent in Adidas track-suit bottoms and stomach down to his knees, said everyone had to take the signed field-edge route that arrives in the car park. To press his point, he put his aged collie on a lead "in case he bites you". I pointed out all the footpath signs; "They are being removed". Do we have a problem walking this path? I don't recall ever seeing cattle in this field, let alone bulls; and in February? Having seen me off, he called out "I stay for 2 weeks every winter at Sea View". So that's alright then! Cheers Geoff |

I couldn't get in touch with anyone at the office about this but spoke to John Walker who is unaware of any such changes. It is a public footpath. This man is not a representative of Natural England or the LWT and has no authority to make such remarks. John |

Hi Geoff - sorry to hear about the incident...most peculiar. Quite simply the person had no right in talking to you the way he did, the public footpath is not closed across that field on Sea View Farm and cattle will not be on there until very late Summer/early Autumn (no bulls!). I've done my homework and know where the fella is staying and will be having a word. Regards Peter |

Thanks everyone. To be honest, I did think he was a couple of trees short of a rainforest! He claimed we were the only people he'd seen trying to use the path and that everyone else took the alternative. Still, I hope he enjoys the rest of his holiday. Geoff |

Think it's sorted now John. I was more bemused than concerned. Geoff |
