The latest Issue of British Birds (107: 251-281) contains the report on scarce migrant birds in Britain for the years 2008-10. Once again, these summaries provide a fascinating read, but within the species accounts are some references to Lincolnshire records, although it struck me there appears to be either no confirmation or indeed mention of these records in the respective Lincolnshire Bird Reports. As it includes some potentially very significant records at a county level I wondered if anyone could shed any light on them for future referencing?
Most notabl were:
Barred Warbler – A bird at Barnetby-le-Wold on 10th May 2008 was only the 17th spring record for Britain. It is listed in the LBC report for 2008 under the section 'Records without any supporting details', however bearing in mind the national rarity status of the species in spring, and the fact it would be the first at this time of year for Lincolnshire, was anything ever submitted to get this important record fully documented?
Melodious Warbler – The BB report refers to only 8 in England away from the south coast during the period but this did include one in Lincolnshire. Nothing is listed in any section of the LBCs for 2008-10 and as this is a potential county first as far as I am aware. Have any details been forthcoming?
Tawny Pipit – The report details that one of the 13 from the east and south coast counties was from Lincs. Again, nothing is listed in any section of the LBCs for 2008-10. Any info.?
Red throated Pipit – There was a single record from Lincs during the period but again no mention of this species in any form in the LBCs for the respective years for what is still an extremely rare bird in the county.
