I see redstarts most autums in Cleethorpes, but have never seen one here in spring.

Yes, I note from its sightings register that they are regularly seen in April and May at Spurn bird observatory.

What is the predominant springtime migration route of this species?

I think most UK birds return straight to there breeding grounds, and spring birds on the east coast are continental migrants? Therefore, weather patterns and wind directions are going to determine how many birds appear?

Thanks for that observation, Andrew.

It seems odd that Spurn has regular springtime falls (some of them plentiful), yet Cleethorpes receives next to nothing - even though they are only a few miles apart.

I'm always pleased to see them here in autumn, but I miss out on seeing the breeding plumage which is a bit special.
