The Lincolnshire Bird Club

A new publication - A Birdwatching Guide to The Lincolnshire Coast - has been published, and any profits will go to charity.

Current outlets include:

* The tourist information centres in Boston, Cleethorpes, Grimsby and Stamford

* The Anglian Water birdwatching centre at Rutland Water

* Two shops: Perkins of Horncastle and Wrights of Louth

It was printed by Cupits of Horncastle (the same firm which prints the Lincolnshire Bird Report).

Among the "stars" of the publication are Friskney's snowy owl and Grimsby's American robin - two
longstaying birds which attracted extensive media interest and controversy, particularly the latter when birders are said to have looked on as it was caught and killed by a passing sparowhawk.

But there is also room on other pages for info other great sightings, such as pacific swift, Caspian tern, red-flanked bluetail, long-billed dowitcher and many more.

Hats off in particular to Nige Lound, Rob Watson, Michael Warren, Graham Catley and Kev Wilson for some brilliant "finds", but also to Edmund Mackrill who caught up with a great shearwater off Chapel Point, Geoff Williams who discovered a little auk at a caravan park angling pond in Saltfleet and Tom Lowe who celebrated one of his birthdays by sighting a collared pratincole at Immingham.

Once printing costs have been covered , any profits will go to bibic (www.bibic.org.uk) - a charity that offers help to the families of children with brain orders such as autism, aspergers, cerebral palsy and Down's syndrome.
