Without wishing to know locations, have little terns bred/ attempted to breed in
Lincolnshire this summer?

What are the prospects for the species in the county? Are there any active initiatives to encourage them?

Apparently, Spurn have had a record year, with 60 young birds safely away. Perhaps some will come
to our shores in 2015.

Hi Jim

We are pleased to report that 18 pairs fledged 26 juveniles here at Gib this year. I think Gib is the only site where little terns breed with any regularity in Lincs now and there have been a couple of blank years recently. A great deal of effort was put in to this years scheme by staff, volunteers and contractors and it is interesting to note that all the juveniles hatched from eggs that would have washed away on high tides or been predated without intervention. We are grateful to all those who have helped with the shorebird protection scheme this year and extra funding through a LIFE project for little terns has been very important.

Hopefully, the species can take advantage of habitat creation projects on the wider Lincs coast in the future.

2 pairs of Little Terns successfully bred at a site N of Gib last year but I don't know if they bred there this year.

Regards

Chris
