The Vale of Belvoir Barn Owl Conservation Group presents...
Conservation Evening 12th December 2014Details of the event can now be viewed at
www.valebarnowls.blogspot.co.uk For many birders peregrine falcons and barn owls may not be new news however we have two leading ringers that are amongst the most widely experienced in the country in ringing and conservation work all over the UK including seabirds on Scottish islands and they are there to engaged on all types of bird conservation. We have just started fitting baskets for long eared owls as part of an initiative starting in the Lincolnshire part of the Vale of Belvoir.
One of the objectives of the event is to promote the importance of supplementary feeding of farmland birds and to encourage farmers, other landowners and birders to get involved. The event is supported by Kirsty Brannan, East Midlands Senior RSPB conservation officer. It is likely Kirsty would have sent an RSPB officer to attend however, one of our ringers works part time for the RSPB on the farmland bird initiative so is able to give explanation and advice on the RSPB scheme and DEFRA supplementary feeding payments. There is information on the Nottinghamshire supplementary feeding initiative the ringer has also been heavily involved in. Advice on seed mixes is available, suppliers, instructions on how to make a feed hopper and a similar recently patented predator proof bird feeder made by another ringer is available to inspect and purchase. Information and possibly a representative from the campaign for the farmed environment (CFE) will be available.
Nearly, forgot, Professor Newton presenting an interesting talk on the sparrowhawk!

Many thanks for your consideration and assistance,
