There was a mighty altercation between a rook and a magpie in the cherry trees in front of my house this morning. I saw them chasing each other for at least 5 minutes and it might have been going on longer. Also, the rook spent some time pecking at small branches in the tree and, at one stage, the magpie was stripping leaves off the tree. There was a second magpie in the vicinity that wasn't involved but no sign of young birds of either species. I have never seen anything quite like it. Does anybody have any ideas?
