The next trip of the Grimsby RSPB Group is this Sunday (22nd November) to RSPB Saltholme and Hartlepool Bay. Meet Millman's Depot, Wilton Road at 0730hr. £20 per head. Desperately short notice I know! The next meeting is 7.30pm on Monday 21 December 2015 at Corpus Christi Community Centre, corner of Machray Place, Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes DN35 7AE. Matthew Blissett from Lincs Wildlife Trust will be giving a talk on "The Marsh Moth". £3 payable at the door. Seasonable nibbles available with your cup of tea! All welcome to either event. You don't have to be a member of the RSPB. For more information, contact Martin Francis (Acting Group Leader) via this website, at martin.francis2@ntlworld.com (preferred) or on (01472) 883436 Martin Francis |

What happens to the £3 admission fees when they've been totted up? Presumably part of the total goes to the cost of hiring the hall and part to paying the speaker's expenses. What about the balance of the meeting income? Is that put towards bird protection initiatives in the Grimsby area - eg installing nest boxes - or is it sent to the RSPB HQ at Sandy to be swallowed up in bureaucracy? |

For everyone's information, Martin (very kindly) contacted me prior to posting details of the RSPB meetings on the LBC Forum. I am more than happy for anyone to post details of any event that promotes birds, birding events and bird conservation in the LBC Forum. However, if you have specific questions regarding detail/costs, I suggest you contact the person/organisation direct.... Thanks! |

Andrew, can you clarify? Am I right in concluding from your comment that non-members are now permitted to submit posts - or to have posts submitted on their behalf? If so, I'm delighted. However, when the subject was raised at the last AGM, the vote was overwhelmingly in favour of only allowing this facility to be open to members. At the meeting, someone said it would be inappropriate for non-members to be allowed to promote products, services or events. If they wanted to do so, they should sign up to join the club. But now you're saying you are "happy for anyone to post details of any event that promotes birds, birding events and bird conservation in the LBC Forum". If the club's policy has changed, when was the decision made - and by whom? |

No... Martin Francis is a member of the birdclub, so can post through his own membership username/login. Other organisation/individual (who are not LBC members) have to send to me (or the LBC Chairman/Secretary, who then forwards to me), I then post on their behalf.... |

Whoa, Terry, steady on . . . What's "snide" or "outrageous" about suggesting that any surplus branch funds should be spent on local projects such as installing nestboxes or swiftbricks etc at appropriate sites - for instance, residential care homes or schools? The RSPB is to be commended for its great work in safeguarding the Montys, but surely the income generated from the many, many visitors to Blacktoft Sands will have covered the costs of the project (including security) many times over? Obviously, it's up to local groups how they spend spare money - I was merely suggesting that local initiatives might be more appropriate. As an added plus, they would most likely attract beneficial publicity from papers such as the Grimsby Telegraph, the Cleethorpes Chronicle and possibly local radio/TV. |

I hadn't noticed this thread developing for a day or two - I must keep my eyes open wider, in future. May I respectfully suggest that this is not the place in which to discuss RSPB financial matters and policies, either locally or nationally. The only purpose of my original post was publicise a very interesting, enjoyable and informative talk and a very enjoyable trip to as many people as possible who might have been interested! I will be happy to discuss privately any wider issues that are raised by the post, but I really wasn't expecting any. Martin Francis |
