Roy Harvey writes..... I am pleased to announce that the 2015 edition of my Rare & Scarce Birds video DVD is now available. Contents include the following - Squacco Heron at Kirkby Pits - the second county record. Red-footed Falcon at Willow Tree Fen, plus the extremely rare juvenile Red-footed Falcon at the Gibraltar Point NNR - probably the first time one of this age has been seen in Lincolnshire. A pair of Black-winged Stilts were at RSPB Frampton Marsh in May, followed by a White-rumped Sandpiper and Broad-billed Sandpiper. Also at Frampton, three different Red-necked Phalaropes were filmed - a male, a female and a juvenile. In addition, a superb adult White-winged Black Tern graced the reserve! Yorkshire again did well for rarities with Black-bellied Dipper at Harpham early in the year. RSPB Old Moor hosted a Gull-billed Tern for one day, and lingering for much longer was a Black Stork in the Spurn area, which also paid a visit to Lincolnshire. RSPB Blacktoft Sands was home to a Spotted Crake for a while, then later in the year Spurn delivered the goods with a male Pied Wheatear and a Citrine Wagtail arriving on the same day- the latter giving outstanding views from the wader scrape hide. Also in the autumn a Red-flanked Bluetail was an excellent find, as was the long-staying American Golden Plover at Kilnsea. As usual, there were some cracking birds a little further away with the following all in Norfolk - Pallid Harrier at Flitcham - the same bird that visited Lincs., Olive-backed Pipit at Weybourne, Isabelline Shrike near Sheringham, male Siberian Stonechat at Caister on Sea, Icterine Warbler at Burnham Overy and Red-flanked Bluetail at Wells. One of the star birds for us was the Harlequin Duck in Aberdeen. Other notable arrivals captured on video were Hudsonian Godwit in Somerset, Pied-billed Grebe and Sabine's Gull in Lancashire, Laughing Gull in Cheshire, Bee-eater in Cumbria - a pair bred there this year. A superb summer-plumaged female Grey Phalarope in Warwickshire, and in the same county, a singing male Melodious Warbler had a steady stream of admirers. The Scilly Isles are also featured, including the Great Blue Heron in the spring and the autumn Hudsonian Whimbrel. The price of the two-disc DVD set is £15.75 including post and packing.
