THE BIRD ATLAS MEETINGWest Lincolnshire in conjunction with Notts BTO
Coddington Community Centre
Just off the A17 – bear left at the Stapleford roundabout and continue into the village
Saturday 15 September 2007
10 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.
No charge. Bring a packed lunch and we will provide tea and coffee.
The purpose of this meeting is to introduce you to the 2007-2011 National Wintering and Breeding Bird Atlas Project. We need volunteers. Lots of them! So please invite any one you know who enjoys bird watching in their local patch, or further afield, and could contribute to this valuable project.
We shall be giving detailed advice as to how this survey works, why it is probably easier and more flexible than most other BTO surveys you may have done in the past and how you can help even if you don’t wish to get in your car or on your bike.
We shall also start the process of allocating ‘patches’ to experienced keen observers and linking all other observers into these key people so that the coverage is as complete as possible. The work is spread widely to many observers, thus reducing the time input and increasing the value of the data.
Those of you who have assisted with previous Atlas surveys will know that they have been of immense importance for conservation of our wild birds in Britain and beyond. What is special about this one is that we won’t have to wait for years to see the beautiful finished product in book form. The results will unravel on line as we go along and we shall be able to see where there may be gaps in species range caused by poor coverage. You may be prompted to find species that you did not realise you had near to home.
Please come along if you possibly can and please tell everyone you know. Why not forward this notice to your birding friends.
Please note that we need to know if you are coming, since there is a limit on numbers in the hall. Please book with Lynda Milner:
