Are there any properly organised bird racing events in Lincolnshire? I would love to have a bird race and team up with three of you to do it!

Shame on you Katherine. I sense that you are suggesting an activity that would seriously increase the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere - not to mention unnecessary use of the County's roads. If Birdwatchers can't be green then there is no hope for the planet.

Not all bird races have to be by car. I've always hoped that the Canadian/USA Xmas bird counts would catch on in this country. I've been doing a Jan 1st local patch bird count for25 years with 2 or 3 other birders. Never managed more than 55 species but it's always interesting.
Wonder who would win if Gib Pt, Whisby, Freiston Shore, Frampton, Far Ings, Donna Nook etc competed against each other.
Geoff.

I think there are plenty of opportunities for some green bird races. Pick an area walk it, cycle it. The last serious race organised on here was mostly green. GPC did his patch, I walked over the Wolds and the others did their regular local patches. So perhaps a series of winter/spring/summer/autumn day long events could be organised for 2008. It might give the green birders a new goal for the year and encourage a few others to get involved.

Adi
