Hi,

I'm new to the forum and would like help in identifying a recent sighting over the Binbrook - Rothwell area.

Initially I thought that the bird was a common buzzard but, on viewing it from above, I noticed a broad white tail band with a dark brown ending. Occasionally it hovered for a few seconds by flapping frantically before moving on. Its colour seemed to be a dark reddish brown. Its size was similar to a buzzard.

Sounds very like a Rough-legged Buzzard or if it's an escapee then poss. a Harris's Hawk.
