Thought I should mention that the next phase of scrub control at the north east end of Boultham Mere, will be undertaken by the IDB starting tomorrow, 9 January 2008. This work will last for approx one week and as it involves heavy machinery, will inevitably cause some disturbance. Although the hide will remain open, the Reserve is probably best avoided while this essential work is carried out. However, weekends will remain work free should anyone wish to visit.
For those who may be interested, similar work undertaken last winter yielded some encouraging results last summer, with a good showing of Greater Water Parsnip and the first Common Bladderwort records at the Mere for over 10 years. We are hoping more scarce fenland plants will re appear as the right environmental conditions are created.

Grahame
