I have Friday as the date of my last possible Big Birdwatching Trip before my surgery next Wednesday.

Given that I would very much like to get a few more lifers under my belt (Brambling, Redwing, warblers mainly), where would be the best place to head to on Friday? The coast or inland?

Wherever it is, I'll use this thread to provide the report after I get back.

Definitely the coast at this time of year when the wind is blowing from the north East. Just look at the bids reported in the past week at places like Gibraltar Point - Donna Nook/Pyes Hall. North Norfolk has also been good

If you register for their newsletter on the BirdGuides website you can see from their constantly updated map what is about all over the country. (http://www.birdguides.com) Then click on log in and then register. The map is free as long as you take their newsletter but some of their other services have a subscription associated with them. It is a handy tool

Your trouble will be that the wind is changing direction and that the weather is awful at present. It could mean the end of the really good birding

Redwing shouldn't be hard to find at present. There has been literally hundreds if not thousands this week

Hope that helps and best wishes for your op

Go and see the Green Heron, I got down there purely by public transport. There are about 8 trains a day from LCN (Lincoln) to WHA (Westenhanger). Book in adavance, It only costs £50.
