I had a visit from Dave Satterthwaite the other day to pay his sub and he asked if I would post this poem of his on the forum in memory of his friend Roger Goy.

L.B. JAYS

My idea of an L.B. Jay;
is something hurtling past on a windy day.
It's brown of course,and quite small too.
But that's part of their plan
for fooling me and you.
It sometimes has a stripe
on the edge of its tail.
Which makes it harder to distinguish
when it's flying in a gale.

A small pointed bill;
a white bar on its wing, and it doesn't always help
when the little darling starts to sing.
A fork in its tail, legs sometimes pink
and the Field Guide's no help,
It's usually gone in a blink.

But a rule of thumb I have to tick an L.B.Jay;
is to ring Roger Goy of 'Wildlife U.K.'
Of information, truly this man is a hive
On Lincoln five' doublefour, two four, five.

Dave Satterthwaite.
