Jobs Lane gravel pits near Whisby. Lots of nesting activity on a sand face within the gravel extraction workings. This area doesn't seem to be being excavated at the moment, but there is a lot of work going on nearby. Could anyony tell me if nesting birds have protection from disturbance and probable destruction in such a situation? Cheers. Rick

Rick,

Sand Martins are protected in such situations, and there have been successful prosecutions against a few sand/gravel extraction companies in the past. To be fair, most companies are pretty good these days and will try and accommodate them.

Cheers,

Alan

Many thanks Alan. I think I'll do nothing unless there are renewed signs of activity in that section of the workings. The bank being used is on the opposite side of Jobs Lane from Jobs Lane pit. Cheers. Rick
