Hi As some of you may be aware, we had the grand opening of RSPB Frampton Marsh new habitats and facilities today. I've just posted two maps in the photo album (Birders and Birding section http://www.lincsbirds.co.uk/album/displ ... pos=-10041) that illustrate the new habitats in some interesting and garish colours. Sunglasses may be required! The important things to note are the names of the hides (Visitor centre, Reedbed Hide, 360 Hide and East Hide) and the names and locations of the various habitats. One very important point to bear in mind is that the reedbed is not actually a reedbed yet, so please don't come here expecting bearded tits just yet! We will be planting 15,000 reed stems here in June, and we expect it to take several years to become a fully fledged reedbed. In the meantime, it will be a mix of reed, fen, wet grassland and open water. Perfect habitat, in fact, for a range of southern overshoot rarities! The scrapes will also take time to develop fully, but we hope that they will be good right away. A 21 hectare scrape at the confluence of two rivers in the bottom corner of The Wash should get some birds... The visitor centre will be open from 10-4 daily (except Christmas Day), and has toilets and tea/coffee/mars bars. Please come down and take a look, and look forward to the three species of godwit... Cheers, PF. |
