The male LE at Whisby was still alive and kicking today, viewable from the usual spot on Willow Walk.

Corbet when studying Emperor Dragonflies (in the same genus as LE's) in the 1950's concluded that although adults can live for 60 days, the average life expectancy was only 14 days. Using this as a rough guideline, anyone still interested in seeing this Dragonfly would be advised that it has been on the wing now for nearly 2 weeks. The forecast for Friday and Saturday look good for the Lincoln area, perhaps offering a final chance to see this (assumed!) first for Lincs.

Or, alternatively, we can wait two years and see the next generation?

Is there any reason why this isn’t likely to happen?

In theory no, but as Willow Lake was stocked with fish earlier this year (the fishing rights are held elsewhere), I hope that the larvae don't all get eaten!

However, you may be interested to know that despite my prediction at the end of last week, Methuselah is still alive and kicking and was showing well in flight today(Tues 18th) at 3.30pm. Can go missing for long periods though.

Another visit to Whisby perhaps?

Lesser Emperor seen today for about 10 minutes from viewpoint, at about 15.45. No Emperors about to harass it at the time.

Hi Graham

Not that I know of. The last confirmed sighting was Terry's on Wednesday. It's doubtful I'll be able to check tomorrow, I have plenty of work elsewhere at Whisby, but if you are thinking of trying good luck and please let me know if you are sucessful!
