Watched two male Emperor dragonflies skirmishing this afternoon. Suddenly they collided in the middle of the pond and one of them lost half a rear wing, which fell onto the water surface, closely followed by the injured dragonfly. Slowly it 'rowed' itself towards where I was standing on the bank and I managed to help it out of the water, where after about 30 minutes of sunning it had recovered enough to fly weakly into cover.
