Post subject:  LESSER EMPEROR

Big numbers of dragonflies at Kirkby Pits this afternoon, the highlight of which was a stunning male Lesser Emperor hawking along the shoreline of one of the pits all afternoon. It was seen down to within six feet at times but almost always on the move and I didnt managed to get any photos.

At the time of writing, Dean Eades and Alan Bowness have both phoned me to say it is still showing (hopefully they will get some shots). First found it at 12:30pm this afternoon.

It is showing along the shoreline adjacent to the public footpath of the first pit when walking to Kirkby Fishing ponds from the WRG landfill.

Also seen there today:

Several Brown Hawker
Southern Hawker
Black tailed Skimmer
Common and Ruddy Darter
Huge numbers of Common Blue Damselflies and Blue Tailed Damselflies
6 Emerald Damselfly

Cheers
Matt :D :D
