When rough leg appears at south ferriby is reeds island behind you..if so..can you physically go on the island without a boat..if not..how do deer get on there..if you answer because its tidal..how do they know..I have now googled this..it says deer are self sustaining..so I presume years ago they got on but then were stuck!

Hi Andy,
No, you cannot get onto Reed's Island without a boat though deer are strong swimmers. I'm sure GPC may know the answer but I was told that the island was once owned/used by Sir Joseph Nickerson of Rothwell who introduced deer to Reed's Island. I believe it may have been for "sporting" purposes by him and his friends. However, I stand to be corrected.
