The first 2 Cuckoos of today (14th May) were both high flying, very vocal males, at a height of about 150 feet. As they flew over they were continually flying at each other, totally oblivious to my presence and obviously very unhappy about each other’s presence, almost making contact and on one occasion they almost engaged in talon grappling as one bird flew at the other. This behaviour continued for about 2 minutes until both birds were mobbed by 3 Meadow Pipit. They eventually separated and headed inland. Always good to see such interaction, even with common birds. Anybody seen similar behaviour from Cuckoos?
