I have never been sea watching before and would like to go sometime soon problem is I don't know were to go that is within 10/15 miles of Grimsby. I also dont have a clue what good conditions are for good movements of birds. I have only seen one skua species, no shearwaters, no petrals, G N Diver, L T Duck and the more common seabirds e.g Gannet Fulmer. So I really do need to get a good seawatch in before the end of the year so I can complete my targer of reaching 200 birds. Also I don't have a telescope is this a problem? If anyone is doing a seawatch soo let me know and i may pop down and join you :)

Anthony, There are spring tides this week with high tides early morning next sat/sun and you could try watching from the Cleethorpes frontage at the leisure centre as a trial or further along at Humberstone near the yacht club, where you will get expansive views over the outer humber/ sea,
usually a north easterly is good for pushing seabirds near to the coast. ( Huttoft car terrace is one of the better places to watch from a car). regards John

Unfortunately Anthony, a scope is almost certainly a must for seawatching. Perhaps going on the wash pelagic aboard the mystere would be very useful. You would then get to see different seabirds relatively close with experts on hand to explain what you are seeing. p.s you would only need bins for this.
