Little did I realise last week when I mentioned that there was only a hundred or so ruddy duck left in Britain what a debate this would cause and it is difficult not to conclude when watching the debate on Springwatch over the re-introduction of beaver to the UK that sooner or later the same could or will happen with this unfortunate creature before too much longer

I think the key word, and major difference here, is RE-INTRODUCTION. Bring on the Wolves and Lynx I say

no james you have my views wrong, red kite is a native bird and i favour culling nothing, nature has its own way of finding a balance between predator and prey. the problems arise when we come along with our well meaning interference. yes wolves, lynx, beavers etc lets have them and learn to live with them and share our planet with all the native wildlife, no i am not anti pheasant or introduced species i was merely trying to show the flaws in the reason for the cull, detrimental to native species. nobody is shouting for the removal of the pheasant when so much damage is done to birds of prey to protect them only to be shot for fun. surely lunacy at its greatest, :x :x

terry whalin :D  ps i am not against killing for food only for fun

OK !...I've now seen the light and further to Stuart's Peace Accord, and as a final peace offering, I have to admit that I have come round to totally agreeing with John Clarkson in the end.......RE- introductions are different, RE-introductions are fine.....

Right then, as and when the last Ruddy Duck has been slaughtered in the UK, we'll RE-introduce it.

As both 'sides' are finally seeing eye to eye and are now in total agreement, that really should be the end of this thread. :D

Now, that's an excellent idea, David. I'm afraid that some of us had taken our eye off the Phalarope ball. ...mind you, out of some 50 posts only about 6 mentioned the Phalarope.
