While I was at Lake Vrynwy in May I found out that mobile phones were virtually useless. I took my usual phone which is a Tesco [O2] and found out that it was useless. It wouldn't work at the cottage or in the village or anywhere within shouting distance of the lake or hills. My spare phone [Orange] wouldn't work at the cottage so I had to drive to the bus shelter at end of the track [3mls] to get a signal, it also worked in the village and at certain aresa around the lake, but certainly not on the moors.

The main reason I have a phone is in case of emergency. For health reasons and just in case the car develops problems. And when I'm away to keep in touch with mates etc.

Does any of you have any solutions other than not going back, which isn't an option because I am?

I know the RSPB use walkie-talkies. I had wondered if a GPS phone would be any use and if so can they be hired etc?

Any info would be appreciated.

Kind regards

John

Hi John,

I'm not a mobile phone buff but I think the mobile emergency number, 112, operates in all areas, regardless of signal strength. Worth checking at a mobile phone outlet to verify this.
