Any records of breeding Fieldfare in Lincolnshire?

I learned many years ago never say never!! However, from the literature available to me, the answer is a resounding no. There is often some winter confusion between Fieldfares and Mistle Thrushes but it's unlikely that they are confused in the breeding season.

Agreed Stuart!!

Every year we get reports of Fieldfares on the airfield by the non - birdwatchers in july and august in parties and flocks upto 50.

I have yet to find one!! but do get loads of Mistle thrushes young and adults every year, 20 in a flock this evening but never say never.

I cant offer anything on county breeding records, but a quicl look at Gib records shows up a bird here on 21 July 1984 - I have seen them here in early August.

A pied fly here today was my earliest autumn bird ever.

I'm on this case as believe the report to me is quite credible. General access restricted though. Will be back with more news hopefully.

Any more developments on this John? The latest Rare Breeding Birds Panel report for 2006 states Fieldfares bred once in England (in Kent ) in the 8 year period from 1999 to 2006, so if proven this would be an exceptional event.

The info came from a Fieldfare fan and he claimed they never left in the Spring and stayed with the local thrushes. Continuing the search and now have a narrower area of trees to search and flocks to pick through.

Update: There was definitly a pair, but I cannot prove breeding with no young seen yet and time is diminishing to ID young. I have even tried to find the nest site to no avail yet.

Will keep a check and there is always 2011 perhaps.
