I don't think this has any relevance to the LBC - furthermore, the video appears to have been taken covertly and may have some legal implications!

Oddly enough I cannot understand why Dean put this on the forum, and secondly why the admin staff have allowed it to stay on. [-X It has got nowt to do with Bird Chat.

The chap with the camera sounded like a wind-up merchant and by the end of the tape was really getting on my wick. Was he a spy or summat :?:

Max

PS: Being a Scunthonian the area in question was when I was a nipper all allotments.

Nice to actually know your rights before you go to a place like this so you know there talking crap!

In regards to this being on Bird chat, I think this is the most suitable place to put it on the forum.

Did you check your rights before taking photos on ABP property Anthony?

This is definately the right place for this subject to be aired. Having been to Grimsby docks today to see the Iceland Gull we encountered the security guard. He drove round and round before he finally had to stop and question us. We had previously been speaking to the manager of one of the fish processing factories who was very interested and said we were ok being where we were. The security guard said otherwise! He said we could use our binoculars but not the camera. We needed a permit for that which could be obtained at the Dock Office and would take 4 days to process ! This, he said, was so they could do a 'terrorist check'. Now, who would want to blow up a skip of fish guts on Grimsby docks? World failed us!

Having stood on the Israli / Jordanian border, next to a minefield and had armed guards drive up and down, I find the jobs worth, stupid, uniformed power crazed security staff we now have a joke. I am sure this Iceland Gull could turn into 'Golden Wonder Part 2'

Simon and Karen

Well as an authorised user of the port, and responsible for assets on the North Wall, I see things differently from most of the above. I don't think that the Security are doing a good enough job and that too many non-authorised people are allowed on the dock.

I, and our staff, have to have personal and vehicle IDs which must be carried at all times whilst on ABP's premises yet any Tom, Dick & Harry can wander on and watch / photograph a damn bird!! ****

**** Have been down a couple of times and not seen the Ice or Med (2 lifers) or any birders, so am feeling a little bitter :D

Having had a chat over the phone with Dean [he rang me] about what I said and stand by, other than James know one has considered that the security people were only acting on orders from their bosses, likewise the docks guard. Maybe I'm wrong.

We all have opinions and we are all entitled to express them be it right or wrong.

Watched the video and found it very interesting, thanks for posting it Dean.

I've seen a similar one of a guy standing in his own garden, an official looking person strolls up and tells him he can't take photos because of some unspecified law. A debate like the one in this video takes place with the same result, official looking person wanders off muttering.

I can't resist asking this of Stuart, and I bet he knows the answer: what law might taking this video have implications for ?
