Hello, For the past 4 years we have had Hse Sparrows nesting in the nest box next to my son's bedroom window. This winter I fitted a camera (wired not wireless) to the inside of the box. The connecting wire goes into the loft, down through the airing cupboard, under the floor boards and into my son's bedroom where we attached it to an old portable TV. The picture is excellent and we have enjoyed watching the male and female prepare for nesting. I have 1 question/problem; 1) Rather than just accessing the images via the old portable TV can we somehow attach 'it' to our home wireless set up so that we could view the images on our PC and laptop? Many thanks Ian PS A further question; the birds have now put so much material in the box that they have obscured our view. I daren't open the nest box for fear of disturbing them. I wonder if they will trample everything down as the weeks progress? How do Springwatch have such unimpaired views of their bird cams (in nest boxes)? |

Hi Ian, Sorry I don't have an answer, but I'm sure it must be technically possible to do what you suggest. How about going to a computer shop and explaining what you want to do to them? As for the nest, I think if the nest box is quite small birds (I've seen this in great tits) can sometimes create a dome of material over the nest too, try a larger nest box as they might struggle to cover it. Cheers, John |

Ian Regarding your question concerning connecting the camera in the nest box to your computer, this web site might be useful. Regards Roy http://www.enjoybirdsmore.co.uk/faq.html |

Many thanks John and Roy, Come the winter I'll either enlarge the current nest box or simply put in a larger one. They do indeed seem to have built a dome over their nest. We can hear them in there but the view is obscured. The link you provided is a good one and I'll call into Maplins one day soon, see what they advise. For now I'm hoping that as the weeks progress the birds and their young will trample the nesting material down. Thanks again Ian |
