I have just read the recent issue of the BTO Annual Review. In it was a short article on bird ID. A new web site http://www.birdid.no has been set up to give help with identification. It has different language versions - over 50 I think. It also deals with the birds of different countries or regions, all within the W Pal. Even more exciting are the tests, which are at 5 levels of difficulty. There are formal tests you can take and if you pass you get a certificate at a higher education level. You'll find it hard to believe, but T-shirts are also sent to those who pass higher levels - for free.

I have spared you a list of the languages available, regions covered, supporting organisations and other non-essential information. I haven't yet tried any tests yet - if anyone does, some feedback might be of interest.

Also offered are courses to help you improve. I don't suppose they are guaranteed to work though.

Just gave the training quiz a go at easiest and hardest levels. A real mix of easy and hard ones even at the hardest level with the same species often coming up. Must try better next time!
