There are some excellent pictures of the dowitcher and wryneck that have this week been at Spurn on the observatory's site website. Rather hoping they fly over the Humber to Lincs.

Today's wish: a ruby-throated hummingbird in our back garden.

When it arrives, I pledge open house to all birders with free Batemans ale (and/or champagne) plus bacon butties laid on.

There's more chance of a penguin flying in on an ostriches back. Your beer & bacon butties are safe.

That's a bit steep, Andy. I'd personally take the penguin away to leave just the ostrich flying in, so as to make it a fairer and more achievable challenge for Jim.

Regards,

Freddy

Following the comments from Andy and Freddy, I agree to extend my offer (until midnight tonight) to include either ostrich or penguin (or both).

But, no cheating, they have to be real birds - not cuddly toys.

And definitely not anyone turning up at the front door in a silly outfit hired from a fancy dress shop.

Sorry, Jim. After your latest restrictive comments, I've decided to ostrichize you until midnight tonight. How about that!

Freddy
