not a bad day locally three raptors came over me this morning but usually into the light; 2 Common Buzzards and what appears to be a Black Kite, short and square ended tail, shortish wings, very dark underparts even when lightened with shadows and highlights, no real pale patch at the base of the primaries, short neck and head projection--Black Kites are so easy to Identify that I feel emabarassed to have to put the photos in the discussion birds album--over to the real Black Kite experts;

also a flock of 5 Little Egrets flew east at 09:40, 3 singing Turtle Doves, 72 Dunlin, 45 Ringed Plover and 1 Bar-tailed Godwit

I would say that all 3 pics show a pretty classic Black Kite with pic 3985 especially doing so. Absolutely typical silhouette as seen on many a raptor watch. I'll be scanning the skies optimistically tomorrow.

I well remember, a few years ago, that when I reported a Black Kite that flew close over my house at Saltfleetby, it was pointed out by the Honourable Member for Barton that Red Kites had recently been seen around the Humber and the Wash (obvious inference intended).
How poignant and ironic, then, that now he has seen a Black Kite over Barton, it follows very recent sightings of Red Kites at Donna Nook and Gibraltar Point. Both species CAN and DO occur simultaneously!

As I was in The Barton area for most of the day, any chance of seeing a Black Kite would have been greatly accepted. The finder must not have been sure, but from the photographs I no not why.

It looks like the Kite from North Creake, Norfolk seen on 20th May and again on 22nd May but missing on the 21st when GPC's bird was seen. The primaries have exactly the same fret marks as the picture taken by David Hatton.

I think you missed my point, it appears to be the same bird.

If you look at all the recent dates & sightings in North Norfolk they could all be the same bird not lots of Black Kites.

Ermm.... no I didn't. Which is why I said "interesting!"

The only bit I missed was you saying it was at North Creake today - which was why I repeated that fact.

And there have been up to three in Norfolk in recent days/weeks judging by reports.

Want my opinion??Hes winding you all up,hes not seen a black kite at Barton at all.its just a git feeling..................especially now studying the photos,the third pic,could be two red kites in dark light,five fingered primary projection?? ............i could be wrong-will see................
Edited after better lenghy study wed am,4 pints of bitter night before can cloud my judgement!!!!.

Two Red Kites ! one couldn't look more like a Buzzard if it tried !
