Bill Oddie was interviewed on R4 this morning. At the end of the programme they read out extracts from e-mails received in response to his contribution. They included words like grumpy, arrogant, irrascible, surly, bad-tempered and so on. It's somehow pleasing to know that one is not alone in forming a low opinion of his efforts.

He's being interviewed on BBC News 24 at 15:30 this afternoon, and Kate will be with him for it - perhaps Kate will be able to mellow him a bit!

Oh, and they have nesting TAWNY OWLS this year!!!!!!! Now I want the world to turn at Mach 100000000000000 to the power 100000000000!!!!!!!

Can I be the fourth presenter please?

John,

I am extremely angry, disappointed and surprised at your low opinion of the efforts (and attitude) of the "celebrity" in question. I would have thought at least you could have added
boorish, insufferable, churlish, rude, clownish, oafish, uncouth, gruff, radio-televisionally overexposed and especially lubberly and curmudgeonly (now those two adjectives are really appropriate).

Regards,

Freddy

Please accept my apologies. I was of course trying to focus on his more positive aspects.

Awwww guys, come on! You're being rather hard on the bloke, aren't you? Poor Bill....... is all this bad-mouthing really deserved? He was the one that got me birdwatching in the first place!

Sorry!Katherine. You have a point.Just put my adjectival ramblings down to the "Generation gap" excuse. I was introduced to birdwatching by the likes of James Fisher, Peter Scott and David Attenborough and, for me, the jump to appreciate Bill Oddie's style of presentation is very difficult.

Freddy

Lately, seems to have been rather too full of himself for my liking, however doesn't stop me watching as there are precious few UK wildlife programmes around

You're absolutely right but Simon King and (especially!) Kate Humble carry the show. His interventions are largely irritating.

Fortunately I work, a rarity on here, so therefore I miss all the good/bad stuff on tv and the good birds but I do rush to get home in time to catch all the good bitching on here

Adi,

Well, as for me, I do apologise for 'not working'. However, I reckon at 74 years of age, I shouldn't selfishly deprive younger people of gainful employment.

Freddy

Strikes me as a man spinning around at the bottom of a long dead end road looking for a new direction.

And I thought I was on my own of not liking Mr. Oddie :!:

He doesn't give poor Kate a chance to get a word in edgeways.

Not to put to fine a point on it, Bill Oddie gets on my ****. Oh I didn't like him in The Goodies either.
