Post subject:  AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN!

Before anyone jumps down my throat about the following I am contacting LWT about this matter. And considering contacting the Road Safety Partnership.

Yesterday when leaving MSQ, it was almost impossible to see if any traffic was coming in either direction, the grass on the left side must be about 3-4 feet high and looking to the right the view is partly obscured. Some of traffic travelling down this road is certainly getting very close to the national speed limit for a B-road. And motorcycles think it is a race track.

I have in the past almost had an accident because my view was limited.

On the road to the left leading to Kirton, about a few hundred yards from the entrance there is a dip in the road, so this makes it worse.

I know this problem has been occuring for years and as far as I know no accidents have happened, yet!

Am I over reacting or do I have a valid point?

Max

Spot on Max.
the vision on the right is very poor, if a car is approaching from the right there is not going to be a lot braking distance between the two cars, especially if that car is speeding. Not so long ago i decided to turn left to head towards Kirton, i looked right to check to see if it was clear, it was so i began to pull out, i had to brake very hard because a white van driver was speeding down the wrong side of the road overtaking a car, i hate to think what would have happened if i had pulled out, perhaps there should be some roadsigns near the entrance indicating hidden exit?, still i do not think that would stop some of the idiots who like to use that stretch of the road as a drag strip.

I think that you will find that it is not the responsibility of the LWT to cut the roadside verge near MSQ. I think that the WLDC will need to be contacted.

Roy,

What does WLDC stand for?

It may not be LWT responsibility but it wouldn't take but a few minutes with one of the brush cutters at their disposal to do it. I suppose we need someone being severly injured or worse for something to happen!

And if it is their responsibility it would be very ill advised for another body to do the job. There are far too many Health and Safety implications.

Roadside verges are the responsibility of the highways dept,
although we strim some of the access junctions at Saltfleetby n n r,
however we are based on the site, and MSQ is managed by volunteers.
John.
