I would estimate that 80% of people who have a pager never actually find anything of note so they broadcast news of Green Sandpipers and Willow Tits---
Supplying information via whatever means should be in line with the Birdwatchers Code of conduct with the prime premise that the welfare of the birds comes first, then perhaps the welfare of the habitat without which th ebirds would not be there; no-one has any obligation to share information but most people wish to do so and in 90% of cases it causes no problems but if there are valid reasons why a site cannot hold 300 birders or more importantly nowadays 300 cars then there has to be consideration for the wider public;
The best way to see everything at a site is to go every day and look for yourself like some locals do---only when you have walked around a site day in and day out for months on end and found nothing rare will you appreciate just how fortunate you are to have people who do the same supplying their one bit of good luck to all and sundry to save them the effort of finding it themselves;

I myself get out as much as possible. I must say it does annoy me when some
birders sit on there computers, pager etc or ring you up to see if anything been
seen ? If birders got out when possible I believe more would be found !!!

I agree with GPC and Dean.

I don't have a pager, have no need of one.

I try to get out each weekend and sometimes midweek, depends how I feel.

I have learnt from my mistakes and now realise it's not worth putting certain birds on the forum, just so I can say "I have seen them".

I am learning all the time from those who go out wildlife watching with me, and those of you on here who have a lifetimes experience, there are too many to mention but I know who they are.

At the end of the day we should all work together, because we are all aiming for the same thing, to enjoy this excellent hobby. I suppose it's impossible for us not bicker now and again, but it's becoming the norm of late. It's human nature.

Well said Max-We should all work together-its all any of us want!!The funny thing is mr gpc -you keep harping on about little room for cars at alkborough,answer this mr catley,how much room do you think there is at messingham sand quarrys??hardly much more!!!but there has never been a problem,and look at the rarities there!!!isobel heward wilson whos in our scunthorpe telegraph quiz league team lives at alkborough,sings in the local choir,ive asked her about all this,and there was some worrys in the beginning,but the resultant invasion has not materialised!!,so-yes if a very rare bird does turn up and its put out,which it wont be less i or others find it,they are going to have to park in the village-its rather a big place,it would be over and done with in no time at all,it mightcause a bit of a fuss,but it would not last long.i rather suspect your reasons are Suspect!!!!as for schedule one birds,without checking the list,i would think that applys to many sites
As i said in my original submission,all i want is for a cohesive linconshire group of friendly birders sharing our finds equally and stop trying to hide behind excuses/reasons which do not hold any substance.Bad feelings is growing over this,yeah im the first to highlight the problem,that is only because i live within 20 mins of the flats,but im not the instigator of this.

Having been to Alkboro and MSQ, you are wide of the mark regarding parking. At the former where the hardstanding is I suppose it's possible to get six cars maximum. At the latter I would say 20-30 cars is possible if they all parked sensibly. Obviously you have never been to MSQ Open Day, I have, the car park is overflowing with cars, and then some.

Get your facts right.

Whats 20 cars difference Max??when 300 turn up for a Green Heron??anyhow Max,to be honest im sick of all this squabbling over these flats,as someone said,if someone does not want to put out bird records from there then no amount of complaining about it will alter ther minds in fact it will only make it worse i suspect.
These Flats leave a bitter taste in my mouth,Ive had nothing but trouble with this place,either being there and rowing with others or on this forum,i dont think i will bother going there anymore.
there has never been problems at msq,i dont want anymore to do with it,if they dont want to put bird records out,so be it-leave em to it,who cares anymore!!I dont now!
Im locking myself out of this subject as of now!!!!!.

What I cannot understand is why anyone believes that they have a right to see these birds, no birder is under any obligation whatsoever to broadcast the whereabouts of birds be them rare or common, my advice to those of you who complain would be to get out there in the field ,visit these supposedly magical sites, interact with the heirarchy of the birding world and maybe become part of there grapevine , or better still find your own birds ! If you are only 20 mins away from the flats Rog why arent you finding all these rare birds ? In my experience most experienced birders do not keep these birds quiet for selfish reasons , they are all concerned for either the welfare of the bird/s or the protection of the habitat, if local birders have genuine concerns for these issues you must respect this.
These arguments are getting a little tedious now and spoiling what is a very informative and useful forum, I for one am sick and tired of seeing the same people moaning about the same old things over and over again.
Lets keep the forum from degenerating to this crap continuosly and use it for its intended purpose.
