| Post subject: | Lapwings |
As I sit at my desk watching large numbers of Lapwings (and other waders) flying 'back o'Doigs', I wondered if anyone has an idea of the exact(ish) numbers of Lapwings on the Humber bank at Grimsby? |

Because of a serious decline in breeding Lapwings in the UK they were placed on the BAP "long list" as a red data species in 1998. The latest BTO News notes a further decline since then. It just shows what a large number of them are likely to be winter visitors. |

I did a bit more research and figures in 2002 showed that there were an estimated 36,000 Lapwing wintering on the Humber Estuary matcjhed only in numbers in the UK by Somerset Levels. Obviously numbers fluctuate annually. |
