Post subject:  Carbon Fibre Tripod: Info sought

My scope tripod is now 20 years old and though I hate parting with my equipment, the time has come to replace it. I'd like a lightweight but firm tool and I hear that carbon fibre is the way to go. I'd be interested in any recommendations people have based on their own experience about a particular model.

Also the best place to buy it from.

Thanks in anticipation.

If I can also get my retaliation in first, I know some of you think my scope and bins (and bike) need replacing too, but I'm very happy with them at present.

The words 'horse' and 'cart' spring to mind. There's little point in having a first class tripod and mounting a milk bottle on top. However, I have a Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod 055MFV with a Manfrotto 700RC2 head. It's a relatively light, strong and stable combination weighing in at 2.47 kilos. I would not recommend this head which I find far too fussy but the whole thing is probably half the weight of my previous tripod.

I also have Manfrotto carbon No443 with a 700 RC2 head.
I've had Slik and Velbon tripods but this is the best I've used, you do have to be careful and keep the various screws on the head tight or you could lose them.
